Do You Really Need to buy an iPhone X in 2019?

It has been about a year and three months since that historic moment at the Steve Jobs Theater. A period of time in which the new Apple smartphone has been in the spotlight. Besides the notch, the other differentiating point of the iPhone X that consumers liked least was its price. For the first time the barrier of 1,000 euros was exceeded in the base model of a terminal of the bitten apple. But the days have passed, and in this time a successor has appeared for the mobile phone of the tenth anniversary, the iPhone XS. The latter is even more expensive than its predecessor in some configurations.

With the entry of 2019, many people will be willing to start the year on the right foot by changing their mobile phone, but they are not willing to spend the big bucks that Apple’s last. You may be thinking if the iPhone X is a good purchase considering that it has been on the market for some time. Let’s consider the pros and cons of acquiring this model at this stage of the film.

Performance

Let’s start by assessing the performance of the iPhone X. Today is still a beast in its performance on a day to day, worth the redundancy. If an iPhone 6 continues to be a very capable device in most tasks that are thrown at it, how could the X not be able to? You can run all the applications available in the App Store without messing up, whether games or photo retouching tools.

This is thanks to the Apple A11 Bionic processor, also available on the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. It has two high-performance cores that are 25% faster than the previous one, the Apple A10, but also has four more low-power cores that promise 70% more performance and efficiency than the previous generation.

Probably never use all the power that the Apple A11 Bionic processor can offer, but if your intention is that the phone lasts a couple of years, you have it insured.

Camera

The photographic section is one in which most users are fixed. In the era of social networks like Instagram and its ephemeral stories it is very important to have a good camera to immortalize everything. And the iPhone X more than meets.

Its rear camera has two sensors of 12 megapixels each with wide-angle and telephoto, and apertures of ƒ / 1.8 and ƒ / 2.4, in addition to digital zoom up to 10X. It allows the recording of images in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second and slow motion at 240 FPS in Full HD 1080p.

But the most interesting thing is in the front camera. The iPhone X is the first device that launched the new Face ID facial recognition system. Remember that this smartphone no longer has a Touch ID due to the lack of physical start button, but that is not a problem. From Apple we are assured that it is the safest method of protection to date, and compared to other manufacturers it is in a very good position.

However, there does not end everything. In addition to allowing unlocking by facial recognition we also have the possibility of taking selfie photographs with portrait mode thanks to TrueDepth technology.

One thing must be clear: the iPhone X camera is not the best on the market. Rivalizes very strongly with that of Google Pixel 2. Each of them has its strengths and weaknesses in this section, but the cameras of mobile devices improve year after year. For the great thickness of the users it is more than enough. There will always be the possibility of buying a reflex, which are specifically designed to take photographs.

Price

Now we go to the decisive point: the price. The iPhone X is not a cheap mobile phone. It was not at its exit nor is it still a year after its sale. But you can find it for less money.

Apple no longer sells it officially in its online store or in the physical Apple Store, so we will have to resort to other shops. In Amazon you can get the 64 GB model in silver for 899 euros, or even cheaper depending on the seller. From time to time, some other offers appear that lower it even more.

So is it worth it?

Before launching yourself head-first or discarding it completely, ask yourself the following question: why do I use the mobile phone? If, like most people, you only use it for social networks and WhatsApp, you do not need an iPhone. Any other smartphone of 200-300 euros will perform the same task equally well. Now, if you can afford it and want to treat yourself, go ahead.
